I have been using an original Drobo to store my important data and backups since the device launched and I will never go back to normal external hard drives. Data Robotics has announced a new DroboPro device that takes what I love about the original Drobo and adds more.
DroboPro is a business class storage array that self manages and is intended to be simple and robust. The enclosure has spots for eight hard drives compared to the four spot for the normal Drobo device. Like the normal Drobo, the DroboPro allows mixing and matching of HDD brands and capacities.
The storage device supports RAID 5 and RAID 6 with no need to reformat disks or migrate data. Interface options include iSCSI, FireWire 800 and USB 2.0. The best part about the DroboPro is that when more storage is needed you simply pop in a disk with more capacity and the data rebuilds itself and you are ready to go.
