NEC has announced a new 3.5-inch TFT LCD display module that offers QVGA resolution and high readability in all ambient light conditions. The screen is targeted at the handheld terminal market as well as the PDA and PND markets.

The new screen uses NEC super-reflective natural light (SR-NLT) technology that improves performance in outdoor light. Using the reflective mode the display uses NEC's optimum LCD design for easy viewing and viewing angle characteristics.

Reflective mode uses available ambient light for backlighting and transmissive mode uses light from the integrated backlight. Ambient light mode makes for longer battery life reducing the power needs of the screen by up to 90%.
