New software from a company called Next3D promises to bring full HD 1080p resolution 3D movies to the PS3 and Mac computers. The software is available as a free download and can be combined with Next3D's content delivery service allowing consumers to download and play full 1080p theatrical HD movies.
The software was previously available on the Xbox 360. The downloadable content is patent pending and delivers stereoscopic 3D 1080p content to the home over a broadband connection. The films available on the service will be on a pay-per-view basis.
A 3D ready TV is needed to enjoy the films and 3D films from IMAX and Theaters will be offered. A user generated channel will be offered and movie trailers as well. "The response has been phenomenal," said D.J. Roller, Co-founder of Next3D. "Clearly the movie industry is ready for a home 3D audience, and the home 3D audience is primed to emerge. Next3D is on course to be the first to deliver."
