OQO who made tiny Windows XP devices long before there was talk about netbooks and MIDs is apparently in trouble. Wired (via OLED-Info) reports that the pre-orders for the new OQO 2+ with OLED screen that OQO unveiled at the CES 2009 have been cancelled.
Wired also published an in-depth report analyzing what went wrong at OQO titled OQO's Brutal Lesson: Innovate and Die.
We first reported about OQO back in 2002. In fact OQO was one of our first stories on I4U News. The commercial launch of the first OQO Windows XP PDA was then 2 years later in 2004. It is sad to see that OQO never managed to bring down the price of their devices to be able to compete with the new wave of MIDs that will swamp the market in 2009.
OQO did not make any official statement yet on what is going on with the new OQO model 2+ and the company. The Wired report talks about OQO looking for a buyer.
