We mentioned last week that pre-orders of the OQO Model 2+ UMPC had been cancelled. BoingBoing Gadgets reports cancellation of orders on the Model 2+ by OQO are untrue. According to OQO, the pre-orders were cancelled by the online vendor Build Your UMPC.
The cancellations came after OQO was unable to commit to a ship date. OQO SVP Bob Rosin said, "While we haven't canceled the orders, it is unlikely that we will be able to produce additional model 2+ units. So it did not seem worth trying to police that story, as it is accurate in a long-term sense."
Owners of OQO UMPCs that have problems with their machines are in trouble. At this point OQO is in such dire financial shape that it has even halted repair and warranty services. The company says that there will be a solution to lack of service issue soon. If you already have a machine in for service, it's time to be very worried.
