I knew the Robot Apocalypse was coming soon, but I had no idea it would take the form of a fat little green android.
MSI has released that they will be bringing an Android-running Netbook to Computex 2009. This makes MSI one of the first companies to start taking Android seriously as a Netbook OS, and could signal a rising trend in the industry.
Google's shiny new OS, which debuted last year on the T-Mobile G-phone, has been taking the open source world by storm for months now. Skytone announced an Android Netbook just a few days ago, and Samsung's highly anticipated I7500 (run on Android) will be out in June.
Now Micro-Star International (MSI) has thrown their hat into the ring. MSI are the makers of the well received Wind, and they intend to debut their new Android-based netbooks at Computex 2009, according to digitimes.
MSI makes some solid little netbooks, so it should be interesting to see what they can do with the Android platform. Skytone's Android netbook will only retail for $250 dollars. Considering how much the Wind costs, it seems unlikely for MSI to try and match Skytone's pricing. That means they'll have to do something special with their netbook if they want to be competitive.
No information about the new Netbook has been released as of yet. Personally, I'm hoping MSI will take this opportunity to bring out the first touch-screen Android Netbook. If MSI can get an Android touchbook ahead of the curve (and at a reasonable price) they have a real shot to make a revolutionary product.
