Garmin has unveiled a new all-season portable GPS device called the Oregon 550 that features a touch screen and an integrated camera. A digital camera isn’t something that you typically see on a GPS device. The cam has a 3.2MP resolution, 4x digital zoom and 850MB of internal storage.
Thanks to the GPS sensors inside the device, the camera geotags images as well. Other features include a waterproof design and an integrated 3-axis compass. The touchscreen is enhanced and sunlight readable.
The Oregon 550t is preloaded with topo maps of the entire US. The compass is tilt compensated so you don't have to hold it flat to get a reading. The screen of the unit is 3-inches and battery life is rated at 16 hours per charge. Adding city maps on microSD cards allows the device to be used in cars as well.
