It's a good day for Gphone fans! More leaks have hit the Internet, these are about the T-Mobile G2 'Sapphire'. These photos give us confirmation that there will be some expanded color options, and they also reveal something else interesting. All of the other HTC Sapphire's going on the market are marketed as having 3.2 megapizel cameras. The T-Mobile Sapphire, on the other hand, clearly has a 5 megapixel camera.
Boy Genius thinks that T-Mobile's managed to get HTC to agree to releasing a special version of the G2 just for them. This is something I have mixed feelings about. Carrier-specific versions of phones could be a new trend in mobile marketing, but I'm curious about how long it will take for another carrier to pick up on this idea.
A 5 megapixel camera is a big upgrade over a 3.2, and it should be enough of an edge to keep T-Mobile as the leading Gphone carrier. The Sapphire is set to cost $179 with a 2-year Wal-Mart contract. I'm not sure why the next generation of Gphones has to come from Wal-Mart, but it's a minor price to pay for awesome phones.
