The team around Takao Someya, professor of electronic engineering at the University of Tokyo developed a new OLED technology that can be bent like rubber.
Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology is bringing pixel based displays to all kinds of interesting materials. We have already seen bendable, ultra-thin and transparent OLED displays. The new OLED from Japan can stretch and deform like rubber.
The current prototype display is 100m2 with a resolution of 256 monochrome pixels. The display can apparently be folded a thousand times without a decline in quality.
The OLED is created via printing with carbon Nanotube pastes.
This OLED display would be great for a foldable screen to carry around in my pant pocket.
