Smartphone-loving hippies and eco-warriors have a useful new tool for green living. The Recycled Tissue and Toilet Paper Guide, which is very popular among environmentally concerned shoppers, has just been turned into an app. Greenpeace, who wrote the guide, hired developer 3rd Whale to turn it into an application for the iPhone and all Android equipped phones.
The app is available for free here. I've poked around it a little, and it looks to be the most comprehensive guide to recycled toilet paper and tissue that I have ever seen. (Not that there's much competition) Products are ranked either “Recommended”, “avoid” or “they can do better” and rated based upon a stringent set of standards. To be recommended a product must:
1. Contain 100% recycled material.
2. At least 50% of which is made of post-consumer materials.
3. Not use chemicals like chlorine during the whitening process.
If you're concerned about your ecological footprint and want an app that will allow you to quickly look up whether or not those 'recycled' paper towels you're eying are actually legit, this app is perfect for you. Its free and its easy to use; you can download it today and start living greener with every trip to the grocery store.
