T-Mobile to Require Data Plans for Smartphones.

There are apparently a lot of folks out there who love having smartphones, but don't really have any desire to pay for a data plan. Before now, I figured the number of people who own smartphones without any sort of data plan was fairly small. After all, what use is a smartphone with no access to the Internet?
Apparently, there are a lot of people who just love the extra features of a smartphone. So many people that T-Mobile thinks they're losing money on it. Boy Genius has just reported that, at some point in June, T-Mobile will start requiring all smartphones purchased to come with a data plan. If you own a BlackBerry Pearl or Pearl Flip, or a Samsung Behold or Memoir, your phones won't be affected. T-Mobile isn't including those phones under the new requirement.
T-Mobile is also squeezing its customers in another new way. T-Mobile's unlimited domestic messages for families plan is going to jump in price from $19.95/month to $24.99/month. It's not a huge jump, but I'm sure it'll tick off somebody. T-Mobile hasn't given any justifications for these changes yet, but I'm pretty sure it'll involve the "troubled economy".
