Sony has introduced its new Walkman X series MP3 players that are optimized for audio and video. Sony calls the new player a portable premium entertainment device and the unit is the top-of-the-line Walkman that Sony offers.
The OLED screen is perfect for video with 3-inchs of screen space for video with high contrast and good color reproduction. The viewing angle for the screen is 180-degrees. Sony says that the new Walkman is the first in the industry to offer integrated digital noise cancellation and has integrated DNC software to block ambient noise.
Included are a set of 13.5mm EX headphones to reduce 98% of external noise. Other features of the device include the ability to download from most music stores, an FM tuner, and embedded Slacker Radio. Video formats supported are WMV and MPEG-4. The battery is good for up to 33 hours of playback and 9 hours of video. A 16GB version will sell for $299 with a 32GB version going for $399. Both will be available in mid-June.
