The E3 news parade continues. We've just come across rumors from PlayStation Lifestyle that Sony is getting ready to reveal a new hardware redesign at E3. Details are lacking right now, but a lot of the current buzz suggests that this 'redesign' could be a slimmed down version of the PS3. According to PlayStation Lifestyle,
"When we caught wind of this, the exact word “redesign” was used, which leaves me to believe that it is indeed a PS3 slim. Announcing a different color wouldn’t exactly warrant the term “redesign”."
Other possibilities are that Sony is just releasing a white or silver edition of the PS3 to go along with the white and silver Dualshock 3 controllers. Personally I agree with PSL; a different-colored PlayStation 3 would not merit the term 'redesign'.
A new, slimmer PlayStation 3 would be a very nice thing to see. Sony has created an exceptional system, but it's too large and too expensive compared to the other consoles on the market. A slimmed-down PS3 would allow Sony to cut costs a bit, as well as make their product a lot less of a hassle to transport and store.
This E3 is looking to be a big one for Sony. It's already been all-but-confirmed that the PS3 motion controller will be unveiled at E3, and we know that the PSP Go! will debut then as well. If Sony throws a re-worked PS3 into the mix this will be a very interesting E3 indeed.
