Ever wished you could star opposite of Bogart in Casablanca? Or quiver in Dr. Grant's boots as a mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex bears down upon you? Of course you have. That's why Yoostar's new entertainment system is going to make huge, embarrassingly large buckets of money when it hits stores on August 24th.
If you don't know what Yoostar is don't feel too bad. The technology first saw the light of day in the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show. In essence, what Yoostar does is put you (the player) into the starring roles of your favorite films. The Yoostar company has put together a library of film, TV, and sports moments and scenes, all of which you can put yourself in the middle of.
Their 'active immersion technology' digitally removes the original actors and inserts the player in their place. You take over the actor's role and, when it's done, you can save your performances to show your friends. We've been hearing about technology like this for years, but this is the first time we've actually seen something that can do a decent job of putting you 'in' the movies.
The Yoostar system costs $169.95, and includes a web-cam with dual mics, a remote control, a portable green screen, a stand, and the Yoostar software. The system ships with clips from 38 different roles. Users can also purchase new clips online from the company's website, and upload their own performances to their Yoostar profile as well.
If this thing actually works well, it's got a good chance to become the must-have gadget this Christmas season..
