Nintendo is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the launch of the WiiWare downloadable game service. The service allowed developers a place to show off their games in a direct to customer style via the Nintendo Wii shop Channel.

The service has 81 different games in its library created by 40 different game studios. Nintendo says that over half the games were created by small studios with less than five employees. Games on the service include World of Goo, Tetris Party, LIT, and more.

Nintendo has new games planned to add to the service including Cave Store, Super Meat Boy, and more. The service will continue to grow with more games. “The first anniversary of our WiiWare service is a milestone that marks how far the service has come and how much great content is currently available,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We encourage everyone to get their Wii consoles connected to the Internet so they have access to the full range of WiiWare games.”
