Fresh on the heels of the release of the new Star Trek movie, the first of what's certain to be a veritable torrent of Trek-themed games hits the open market today. Paramount Entertainment, Bad Robot, CBS Consumer Products and Naked Sky Entertainment just announced the release of Star Trek: D-A-C. It is available now for download to the Xbox 360.

This new Star Trek game is billed as a "fast-paced, top-down space shooter" that features both multiplayer and cooperative battle options. At this point, only Federation and Romulan ships are available. There's been no information as to whether or not Bad Robot intends to add any additional races to the game.

Despite being limited to two sides, the game sounds pretty fun. Up to 12 players can fight at once, and they can choose between Team Deathmatch, Assault, and Conquest modes. There are three ship types per faction, for a total of six different craft. And, yes, the new Enterprise is among the playable ships. You can also choose to pilot a fighter or a bomber, both of which I must have missed when I was watching the movie.

Star Trek: D-A-C will cost Xbox LIVE members 800 Microsoft points, and it will soon be open to PlayStation Network members, as well as PC gamers.
