On Friday we told you that the Mass Effect Pre-E3 trailer would hit later that day. Now it's out, and it's given us a whole bunch of juicy info on what we'll be seeing at E3 for Mass Effect 2.
The trailer, seen here, features the developers of ME2 talking about their plans for the E3 trailer, and what changes this sequel will bring to the series. Mass Effect is one of the biggest role-playing games in history, both in terms of scale and sales. This new game has a lot to live up to.
The dev team is focused on intensity. They've added in a heavy weapons class, which brings really big guns into the game. BioWare has tried to make combat in Mass Effect 2 more reactive. When shot, AI will clutch their wounded appendages, blood will splatter, and they promise you can even shoot the legs out from under enemies.
Story has been a big concern for the BioWare team. Mass Effect had a strong plot and excellent voice acting, and the devs promise that the sequel will be just as good. They're going for a darker story, which should take us further out to the less lawful regions of the galaxy. One of the best parts about Mass Effect was delving deep into the world BioWare created and prying into the dark secrets of a very old galaxy. Mass Effect 2 looks like it will take us into the fringe, which provides a lot of opportunity for a much more anarchistic playing experience.
New alien species are promised, and we'll probably see several new party members become available. And we've got some bad news for everyone who killed off members of their team in the first game; your choices will carry over in Mass Effect 2. That's an impressive level of continuity, and it lends the game even more replayability.
