Nintendo is an impressive company. They've been at the forefront of video gaming since the early days, and they've managed to maintain a position as a leader in the industry for years and years. Now in 2009 their flagship console is the king of the castle, and the rumors we're hearing about Nintendo's E3 plans make us think it'll be staying there for a long time to come.
First up, we can look forward to seeing the WiiFit Plus launch this E3. If you already own a WiiFit, don't worry; the WiiFit Plus will be bundled seperately from the board. Nintendo doesn't want to screw over 17 million WiiFit customers by making them buy the same peripherals twice. These rumors come courtesy of Macquarie Research, an industry analysis firm that has just released a big ol' E3 report.
Nintendo is also expected to provide "more gamer-centric announcements" this E3. Macquarie expects to see either the new Zelda or Mario Wii release this year (if not both), in addition to the new DS Zelda game. Keep in mind that we're also expecting to see Dead Space: Extraction for the Wii at E3, as well as the new Crossfire gun-controller.
This is ramping up to be a big E3 for Nintendo. Earlier this week Satoru Iwata, CEO of Nintendo, stated that Nintendo needed to "continuously craft ideas" in order to keep their console profitable and stop the used game market from encroaching on their business.
I don't have any issues with used game retailers, but if Nintendo wants to compete with them by releasing a constant stream of awesome games I'm not going to complain.
