We reported about the Cell Processor the first time in May. The Cell Processor is the next generation processor for game Consoles like the Sony PS3.
IBM, Sony and Toshiba announced new details on the wonder CPU.
IBM said it would start pilot production of the microprocessor at its plant in East Fishkill, New York, in the first half of 2005. It will use advanced 300 millimeter silicon wafers, which yield more chips per wafer than the 200 mm kind. Sony stated again that the PS3 will use the Cell Processor. Apparently Sony wants to show the next playstation first time in May. So not much new here.
More details to come in February 2005 at the International Solid State Circuits Conference in San Francisco.
