Microsoft has announced that it will ship Windows 7 Starter Edition globally. Starter editions of Windows have been offered for both Vista and XP, though they were not available in the US previously. One big caveats with previous started editions is that there was a three simultaneous application limit.
Microsoft has announced that in addition to shipping Windows 7 Starter globally it has also removed the three application limit. This is a clear attempt by Microsoft to get XP out of the market and have netbook makers adopt Windows 7.
The Starter edition will miss some basic Windows 7 features though like DVD playback, the Aero Interface, personalization features, media center, multi monitor support and more. Microsoft maintains that the stripped Starter version is not the only version of Windows 7 that will run well on a netbook, all versions of Windows 7 are appropriate for netbooks according to the software giant.
