As you might have guessed, we're just a little bit excited about Quantic's new game Heavy Rain. It features stunning next-generation graphics, voice acting that (from what we can tell) is top-shelf quality, and a badass high-tech murder mystery. Well now we've got an actual gameplay video from E3 to go along with all of the hype. I've got to say, it looks awesome.
It's a big relief to see that the in-game graphics are as impressive as we'd hoped. Before now all that we'd seen were cut-scenes and cinematic videos, and you can't judge how good a game will look by that alone.
We also see our first hints about what Heavy Rain's gameplay will be like in this video. There is virtually no on-screen interface in the game, all the data you need pops up when investigating items. Looking at a blood spatter prompts a DNA analysis to pop up right above it, and looking at a set of foot prints or a blood trail prompts a similar data box that gives information about its origin. Apparently your detective in Heavy Rain walks around with a CSI department in his pocket.
So far, Heavy Rain looks exceptional. We won't be able to say anything for certain until we get our hands on a playable demo, but Quantic seems to be on the right track.
