The Palm Pre goes on Sale on Saturday. Late Thursday the embargo for Palm Pre reviews has expired and several publications published Palm Pre reviews.
The early Palm Pre review we featured last week was not that positive, but the reviews from WSJ, Engadget, and USA Today lead to a positive verdict. The major beef all reviewers have with the Palm Pre is the lack and uncertainty of App support. Apple has railed developers and built an extremely robust offering of Apps for the iPhone within less than a year.
First I thought Palm would have no problem building its developer network since they had a big community back in the Palm OS days. Then came the Palm OS emulator announcement of the Palm Pre and I thought Palm does everything right. A couple weeks ago discussions appeared that Palm is slow in supporting Palm OS developers. In a story on BusinessWeek, well known open source figure William Hurley draws a very bleak picture of Palm's developer support and lack of apps for it.
Another main issue is that the Palm Pre is bound to Sprint. When we reported that Verizon Wireless would get the Pre, the story triggered huge interest. If you want the Pre you need to give Sprint a chance.
