Yesterday we told you about Sony Ericsson's upcoming eco-friendly cell phone roll out. The Greenheart series of phones have been in the works for a while, and Ericsson just announced the first two Greenheart phones today. The Ericsson C901 and Naite mobile phones are made out of largely recycled plastics, and are billed as having a significantly lower environmental impact than other, more conventional cellular phones.
In their press release Ericsson made it clear that they are intent on reaching out to the environmentally conscious with this new line. While both the C901 and the Naite have paperless manuals and have a lot of recycled parts, the Naite is definitely the phone for the more 'hard-core' eco-warriors out there. It's got smaller, recycled packaging and a special charger that (Ericsson claims) will reduce its lifetime C02 footprint by 15%.
Both phones also carry a couple of features for people who care about their impact. The C901 has the WalkMate feature, which compares your on-foot journey's to car rides of equivalent length. The Naite has the EcoMate feature, which helps users to make 'green choices', and a pedometer that tells you how much CO2 you're avoiding putting into the atmosphere by walking instead of driving.
The Greenheart C901 debuts in Q2, while the Naite will hit stores in Q3. No pricing information is available for either phone as of yet.
