It was just announced at the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference that the much-awaited iPhone OS 3.0 update will be out everywhere on June 17th. iPhone users will receive the update for free, and touch owners will have to shell out $9.95 for the latest version of the OS.
OS 3.0 has a number of cool new features that Apple fans have been waiting for. For one thing, tethering support is included in the new update. While AT&T is very much against allowing users to tether their iPhone to a notebook, future non-ATT carriers of the iPhone 3GS could be able to take advantage of this. OS 3.0 also contains app-sharing and in-call digital sharing (no mention of video-conferencing though).
iPod Touch and iPhone owners new and old have a lot to be happy about from this update. Apple is definitely pushing apps in a very big way, and 3.0 will only broaden the scope of what is possible.
