Congratulations, erstwhile owners of the HTC Touch! Your crippled smartphone is about to recieve a massive firmware update that, among other things, will unlock your GPS so you can actually use it without needing VZ Navigator.
Today Verizon approved this firmware update to the xv6850 Touch Pro. In addition to unlocking the GPS (which Verizon promised Touch owners last year) the update adds Visual Voicemail support (for an extra $3/mo) and EVRC-B codec support. With this new update call handling should be much smoother, and Touch owners will finally be able to use Google Maps and Windows Live Search.
VZW is not offering the update for download just yet, but the good people at Phone News have it for you right now. Just click the link, download the update, and start GPSing like a fiend.
