While the launch of OSX Snow Leopard, Apple's newest Mac operating system, has garnered a lot of attention there is considerably less excitement for OS X Server, which was announced the same day. Snow Leopard Server is a UNIX-based 64 bit server operating system. It will retail for $499 and release in September, presumably alongside Snow Leopard.

Computers and hardware being equal, this new Apple server OS is said to be "up to" twice as fast as its predecessor. It comes with several cool new features, like Podcast Producer 2, which allows you to automate the process of building and publishing podcasts. It also comes with Mobile Access Server, which has secure access to firewall protected network services on both the iPhone and Mac lines.

Snow Leopard server also comes stock with the iPhone Configuration Utility, which allows you to set up multiple iPhones with "configuration information, security policies, mail settings and certificates needed to connect to and communicate with enterprise systems."

This new server has a bunch of other new features as well, including; Wiki Server 2, the new Address Book Server, iCal server 2, a new Mail Server engine, QuickTime X HTTP Live Streaming, and NetRestore.
