If you're an iPhone user, there's a fair chance you've already downloaded an app designed to help you access either iDisk, Google Docs, or an equivalent remote file storage program. For a while now iPhone users have been forced to turn to a 3rd party application in order to use their iDisk services, or any file storage services, for that matter.

Now things have changed. Apple has recognized the error of their ways and, as a gesture of reconciliation to their spurned customers, they've released a first-party iDisk application. We're still a while off from an actual iPhone client-side file storage system, but this is a nice step by Apple. Sure, there's no offline way to get to your iDisk files and no local caching options, but at least we know that Apple has identified a need to fill. Additional features will come along later down the road.

You can view all the new OS 3.0 features here, including the iDisk application. When it comes out the app will be free, and with any luck we'll see some updates that really increase functionality come along over the next few months.
