Yesterday the Palm Pre Recovery Tool leaked complete with a webOS Root Image on the "World Wild Web."
The Palm Pre ROM has already poring developers all over it and they uncover upcoming features and things that can be tweaked inside the Palm Pre OS code.
One guy switched of the clicking sound for the camera, another guy messed with ring tones. See more in this discussion thread on pre Central.
Another extremely nerdy find in the Pre ROM is the way to get the Palm Pre to launch the hidden Developer Mode Enabler. By typing upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart on the launch screen you are in developer mode. This fun looking phrase is old school Konami cheat code.
Via PreCentral and Engadget.
Now that the Palm Pre operating system code is in hackers hands we most likely see very soon an unlocked Palm Pre. I am back and forth if the leak of the webOS ROM is actually good for Palm. The Palm Pre could become a favorite in the DIY crowd. On the other hand it will be bad for business as you can forget about App sales and carriers will also not be happy.
Will be interesting what comes out of this and how Palm will react to the situation.
