Covered by all the Apple News going on this week a tiny new Wii accesory shipped that actually should have a big impact on game play on the Nintendo Wii.
The Nintendo Wii MotionPlus accessory for the Wii Remote controller redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with a higher level of precision and immersion.
Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play.
Nintendo can still just smile at the fancy announcements about Motion Controllers from Microsoft and Sony as Nintendo is offering it now and not in the future.
Robert Oschler maker of the Robodance robot control software is actually also excited about the possibilities of Wii MotionPlus for controlling robots. He says that it opens up tremendous possibilities for controlling a robot in a telemetry suit manner, far better than just with the WiiMote's accelerometers alone. The other possibilities in the telepresence world even without robotics are equally tantalizing. First the Wii MotionPlus interface needs to be hacked though, like the Wiimote already is.
Get your Wii MotionPlus on Amazon.com for $19.99.
