The deadline for the digital transition is tomorrow June 12th. Despite the fact that the transition is less than 24 hours away the Nielsen Company reports that hoards of American households are unprepared. Around the country, 2.8 million homes won’t be able to watch TV broadcasts after the transition.
That number represents 2.5% of the entire TV viewing market. According to the company, younger, African American, and Hispanic homes are disproportionately unready while the elderly are the most ready.
As of June 7th 1.9% of white homes aren’t ready for the transition and 5.1% of African American homes aren’t ready. The top unprepared market is the LA area with 252,180 homes not ready for the transition. The DFW area has 145,414 homes not ready for the transition. The most ready area is the Providence-New Bedford area where apparently every home is ready for the transition.
