The other day we brought you the video demo for Layar, an augmented reality app made by Netherlands-based SPRXmobile. Today Engadget has posted up a video interview with one of the designers of Layar.

The video is seriously impressive, and it gives us an idea of what we can expect when this hits in the U.S. Layar looks like a very useful tool for job searching. You can order a search of jobs meeting certain payment and distance parameters. Layar populates the live world map with little dots to represent the location of your search results. You can alter your search parameters to increase or decrease the number of hits you get. If you like the look of one of the jobs, you can select it to find more details or call the company.

Right now, Layar only works in the Netherlands because that is the only part of the world they've populated with information. SPRXmobile has signed several content agreements with companies in the Netherlands. They're working on getting agreements with content providers in the U.S, Germany, and the U.K in order to roll Layar out in those places later this year.

SPRXmobile is developing Layar primarily for Android devices, but they are also hard at work on an iPhone 3GS version of the app. Unfortunately, since Layar requires a magnetometer it will only work with the 3GS. Layar is expected to be released on July 1, 2009 across the U.S and, yes, it will be 100% free.
