It's no secret that there have been some issues with the iPhone 3.0 upgrade release. Slow servers have been a bit of a problem, thanks to the sheer volume of people downloading the firmware upgrade. That is pretty much par for the course. What's surprising are the issues that the 3.0 upgrade itself is causing.

For one thing, a bunch of first and second generation iPod Touch owners have encountered WiFi problems since updating. Most of the issues deal with the iPod failing to reconnect to the network after sliding into sleep mode. Every time the iPod goes dark, users are forced to reconnect manually to the Internet. Some owners have also experienced more severe issues, like the Touch failing to recognize its own internal WiFi chip.

Some of these issues can be fixed by resetting the network settings. If your device starts to experience issues, try that before calling tech support. The Touch WiFi issue sounds a little irritating, but it's not nearly as bad as the issue that's been plaguing quite a few iPhone owners.

There are reports from the Apple forums that several people have experienced full iPhone 'bricking' when they downloaded the 3.0 update. Their phones are stuck on the "Connecting the iTunes" screen. Some users have managed to fix it by putting their devices into recovery mode and plugging it back in. Others have fixed this issue by downloading the update on the Mac and installing it into the iPod manually.

I hope that Apple figures out what's wrong and fixes the damage their updates have done. Having your iPhone turn into a useless lump on the day of a cool new update is almost more agony than a mortal nerd can bear.
