This Thursday is the end of Palm's quarter. Although we're less than 24 hours away from learning just how well (or poorly) Palm has performed, the analysts haven't stopped making predictions about just what we'll see tomorrow. Mike Abramsky of RBC Capital came out with a list of predictions today, including one that estimates 150,000 Palm Pres sold since launch.
Abramsky feels that the Pre's success hasn't faded any due to the launch of the iPhone. He quotes a recent study that states Pre buyer intention is up from 4% to 8%, which is a fairly significant victory for Palm. Abramsky also notes that Sprint stores have continued to sell out of Pres regularly since the launch earlier this month.
The most jarring prediction Abramsky made, however, has nothing to do with Pre sales. Abramsky expects Palm to release a streamlined budget version of the Pre for around $99, close to the end of 2009. He also expects more Palm smartphones to hit the market in 2010.
There's definitely a certain logic behind Abramsky's predictions. Apple's decision to sell the old 3G as a budget smartphone could definitely influence Palm to try something similar. I'm not sure that I believe Palm will have a budget Pre ready by late 2009, though. Honestly I think they'd be better served by spending the next few months working on their app store offerings.
