Since the big announcement that Intel and Nokia partnered up a wave of speculation has swept the tech community. We know that this partnership means something, but no one is quite sure exactly what. Netbooks, smartphones, and MIDs have all been proposed as possible lovechildren of this new union. Unfortunately, Nokia and Intel have kept their mouths shut about just what is going on.

We still don't know just what to expect from this new union, but if Strategy Analytics is correct we can at least remove one possibility from the docket. In a press release today the industry analysis firm stated that they “don’t expect” to see a smartphone based on Intel architecture hitting anytime soon.

While it's entirely possible (even inevitable) that we'll someday see an Intelphone, SA doesn't think we'll see one in the short to medium-term run. What they do expect to see from the alliance is a further fragmentation of mobile Linux. Nokia has decided to continue to push their Maemo OS instead of Google's Android operating system. This gives them more control over the end product, but it's also going to put them in direct opposition to Android.
