Toshiba introduces a portable 3d ultrasonic material testing device in Japan called Toshiba Matrixeye.
The Matrixeye can "look" inside materials like metal or resin and find internal defects. The 3D rendered image of ultrasonic waves (see photo below) shows if there is a weak point inside the material. Conventional x-ray systems only plot a 2D image. The Matrixeye has a 10" LCD screen to view the resulting 3D rendering at the spot.
64 channels of ultrasonic waves are sent and received with piezo-electric sensors. The Toshiba Matrixeye measures 350x250x150mm and weighs 7kg.
