Is Nokia finally seeing the light? In an article back in 2007 I argued that there is no future for Symbian in the smartphone segment and that Nokia needs to pick one of the existing desktop operating systems: Windows, Linux or OS X (unlikely).
UK's Guardian breaks a rumor that Nokia has picked Android and is supposed to show a Nokia Android smartphone in September at the Nokia World Conference.

Nokia is still leading in the "normal" phone market by far, but is steadily loosing ground in the advanced smartphone segment.
Nokia's strategy to offer Symbian for free is apparently not finding takers.

The problem Nokia has now is making their Android phone stand out from that offered by HTC, LG and Samsung. I am pretty sure Nokia will do their own UI on top of Android like HTC did with the new Sense UI for the Hero.

If the rumor turns out to be true, and I really hope so, then my prediction is that BlackBerry is next. RIM is still doing great in terms of sales for their devices, but there is no avoiding the fact that BlackBerry is not running a Desktop OS and is therefore not seamlessly integrated in existing eco-systems.
I guess it will take another 2 years for RIM to realize this and introduce their first Android BlackBerry.

Update: Nokia denies Android Phone Plans.
