Sony announced their first Netbook today with the Sony VAIO W Series VPCW119XJ. Sony vehemently claimes that the Sony VAIO P is not a netbook, but the Sony VAIO W Series is definitely one as it runs on an Intel Atom CPU and the Japanese to English translation reveals the term Internet Book.
The Sony VAIO W sports the typical Netbook specifications with Intel Atom N280 (1.66 GHz), 10.1 inch screen with 1366 × 768px, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Intel GMA 950 Graphics, W-LAN b/g/n, Camera, Bluetooth, 3.5h battery and Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.
The first Sony Netbook is not a stunner and I doubt Sony is going global with this model. Sony is behind the latest netbook offerings of Asus and others.
Measurements of the Sony VAIO W are (not including protrusion) Width 267.8mm × height 27.5mm (most thick part 32.4mm) × Depth 179.6mm. The VAIO W is available in pink and white (also in brown but only for business customers) starting in August in Japan for 59,800 Yen (~$630).
