Sprint is going to offer the Compaq 1040DX netbook with contract for only 99c. The offer is available at Best Buy stores. At least this is the store that broke the news.
Verizon and AT&T look very greedy as they charge $199 for the same netbook when you sign a 2 year contract.
According to Jkontherun the Compaq 1040DX is a rebranded HP Mini featuring 10.1-inch display with 1024 x 576 resolution, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, three-cell battery, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD.
1 Euro 3G netbook deals from carriers are already very common in Europe. Sprint is doing the right thing here as the 2 year contract should drive enough revenue carriers. The Compaq 1040DX is also not the hottest netbook on the block and I suspect carriers are not paying more than $200 for it when buying it from HP.
I still would buy a decent new netbook like the Asus 1005HA and get a 3G datacard at a carrier that works best in your area.
