We have confirmation now that the Nokia Surge 6790 will launch on July 19th for $79.99 (after the rebate) with the purchase of a 2 year contract. This new Nokia is one of the next generation of teen and tween texting phones to hit the market. It's not particularly smart, but it's inexpensive and it does pack more features than most “kid's” mobile phones out there.
The Surge comes with a 2 megapixel camera, AT&T Navigator, AT&T mobile music and video share, and JuiceCaster. While the Surge isn't a 3G phone it does allow its users share and send videos to their Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr accounts. Video Share also allows them to swap live video during a phone call, which is something my generation didn't have back when we were in high school. We had to rely on grainy cell camera photos.
Normal mobile phones are getting a little smarter every year. It won't be too long before every phone on the market is at least 'smart' enough to act as an Internet browser/portable game device. When that happens, children across the nation are suddenly going to become even more distracted and surly than ever. When most of the school has 3G Internet, how will anything get done at all?
