It's official; Androids are taking over the world. Cellular South, which bills itself as the largest privately owned wireless communications provider in the US, just announced that it's bringing an Android to market. This is a big victory for Android fans everywhere, and yet another sign of the continuing explosion of Android adoptions in the smartphone industry.

A 2009 report from Strategy Analytics stated their expectation for Android to grow over 900% over the course of this year. Considering the bevy of sexy new smartphones and netbooks coming out in the next couple of months, I'd say they were right. In their press release Cellular South stated their expectation for Android mobiles to soon overtake even the iPhone, and they cited a 2009 Informa Telecoms and Media report as proof.

Wherever you look in the mobile industry these days, you'll see people talking about Android. The Ericsson Rachael, probably the hottest smartphone in development right now, is poised to raise the OS to new heights of prominence. It's taken a while, but Android phones now operate at every level of the smartphone hierarchy. Google's OS has found its way into low-powered, budget phones and bulky warhorses alike.

Cellular South has yet to announce what their first Android smartphone will be, or when it will be available. I'd bet on hearing within the next few days to a week. More than likely it will end up being either the Magic, or the Hero.
