Admob has just released its latest mobile metric report, giving us a better picture of how Apple's iPhone OS gadgets have spread around the world. The most shocking news in this report has to be the fact that 46% of iPhones and iPod touches in use are from foreign countries. The study surveyed 16.8 million devices and came up with some surprising findings.
1. Outside of the US, France, Germany, and the UK have the most iPhone/Touch owners.
2. Five million of the 45 million iPhone OS devices sold were sold in the US.
3. The ratio of iPhones to iPod touches continues to stay roughly 2:1. Despite this, there are 13 million iPhones and 12 million touches in use in the U.S, substantially different than the worldwide margin.
All of these statistics indicate good news for Apple. They've successfully expanded across the globe, which will make their brand that much more durable when smartphones become ubiquitous and the market contraction begins. Apple has established itself as one of the top worldwide mobile phone brands, and over the next few years we can expect to see that reputation continue to grow.
It wasn't all about Apple today though. Android fans got some great news as well. According to Admob's study,
This means that Android users are becoming a larger and larger facet of the mobile Internet. It's also a great sign of the substantial growth of Android. Google's OS still has a while to go to beat Windows Mobile in device market share, but if it continues to grow the way it has been that day can't be too far off.
