Android Gets Amazon App.

Amazon.com has just released a free new app for Android smartphones. The Amazon App gives you instant access to your Amazon account, cart, and wishlist. Your payment and shipping settings are saved, and you can enjoy 1-Click and Prime membership on your smartphone now too. All you have to do to get the app is search 'amazon.com' in the Android Market, or sign up here.

The coolest feature of this app is called Amazon Remembers. All you do is take a picture of a product or scan the barcode with your Android phone and Amazon will automatically search for that product. The next time you see a book or a CD you'd like to order, you won't have to write yourself a note or risk forgetting what caught your eye.

SlashGear notes that there are some issues with the Amazon App. The ShopSavvy application has the ability to search for products based on photos or barcodes, but it goes a few steps further than Amazon Remembers. ShopSavvy uses your phone's GPS to check to see if local retailers have the product you're looking for. It also searches more than one online store.

If you're a long-term Amazon customer you'll probably want to continue using the service you've grown comfortable with. The Amazon App is a great tool for you. The rest of us, however, will probably be better off with ShopSavvy.
