Huge news for those of you considering a $99 iPhone 3G. Boy Genius has come across several screenshots from Rogers, the Canadian carrier responsible for selling iPhones in the frozen north. Apparently Rogers is working on shipping out new 8GB versions of the iPhone 3GS.
The internal memo stated that this new 3GS had been launched in order to transition away from the dwindling stock of 3G iPhones. BGR thinks that the iPhone 3G might be running out of stock, and Rogers is just the first to replace it with the 8GB 3GS. The price of this new 3GS has not yet been announced but it could be that Rogers, and later other carriers, intend for this new phone to totally replace the 3G at the $99 price point.
If Rogers is replacing the 3G with this new 3GS, can US carriers be very far behind? A $99 3GS would be a fantastic replacement for the old 3G, and it would serve to make Apple's budget iPhone even more irresistible. If we're interpreting this rumor correctly, life just got much more difficult for Apple's competition.
