Toshiba lost the HD Disc war last year. Today the company announced that they have applied to become a member of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA).
Toshiba plans to launch Blu-ray players for home use and Blu-ray drives for PCs.
The first Toshiba Blu-ray player could be on display at the IFA 2009 in Berlin.
In my opinion Toshiba waited too long to start offering Blu-ray players.
After they lost the format war the right step would have been to switch right away. Blu-ray disc players will again be a hot topic for this holiday shopping season. Low prices will be a hot sales aspect for Blu-ray players, but I also see the need to compare load speed as this is still a big issue for Blu-ray players. Load speed is one of the biggest aspects where brand name Blu-ray players can make a difference.
