Samsung unveiled two new seriously cool-looking gadgets today; the TL225 and 220 digital cameras. Both of these 12.2 megapixel cameras pack dual LCD screens on their front and back. This interesting design allows you to take pictures of things in front of, or behind the camera with equal ease. That's a huge plus for travellers who want to get themselves in the photo, but don't want to trust some random person on the street with their expensive digital camera.
These new Samsung cameras aren't just nifty little techno-tricks, they're also pretty high quality equipment. The TL225 and 220 both feature a 27mm wide-angle Schneider-Kreuznach lens with a 4.6x zoom. In addition, they both use the Samsung Smart Gesture UI with built-in Gravity Sensor. When the camera is on, you just need to tap the front LCD to activate it. The camera automatically boots up in self-portrait mode. Just tap the LCD again and smile.
Since these cameras both have Smart Face Recognition and Smile Shot, getting a good snapshot of yourself should be easier than ever. The face recognition feature is capable of memorizing up to 20 distinct faces, and adjusting the focus and exposure of your shots to get those faces into the picture as clear and distinct as possible.
Both cameras are also capable of recording in 720p HD video at 30 fps, using the H.264 format. Both cameras also have HDMI connectivity, so you can send them straight from your camera to an HDTV or HD Monitor. You can find more information about these hot new cameras here. The TL225 will sell for $349.99, and the TL220 for $299.99. I haven't gotten a chance to try either, but the dual-LCD feature makes these cameras seem like the perfect solo-traveller camera. They'll be out in September of 2009 if you'd like to try them out for yourself.
