The good news is that, according to D, the Apple keynote event will occur on Wednesday, Sept 9th. This event is where Apple is expected to show off the latest upgrades to the iPod line, as well as the iTunes 9 update. The bad news is that this keynote is not supposed to involve any discussion of the much-rumored iTablet.
D expects the event to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, which is where it has occurred in previous years. Other than the supposed camera-laden iPods and the social-media focused iTunes 9 update, we haven't really been told what to expect of this event. Considering this marks the first big Apple event since Steve Jobs' return from medical leave, a lot of people think that this might include his first post-surgery public appearance.
I'm not sure what to believe there. A part of me thinks that Steve will want to make his grand entrance with an equally grand new product line. New iPods are pretty cool, but they don't really have the pizazz that unveiling a new tablet PC would have. If there IS an iTablet in the offing, I think there's a good chance that Steve's first post-leave appearance will be to show it to the world. This is entirely speculation, though, and I won't be terribly surprised (or disappointed) if it turns out to be wrong.
