One of the biggest issues with many notebooks and netbooks is that the onboard sound system lacks definition and just doesn't have enough volume. Poor sound systems can really make it hard to listen to music and watch movies on portable systems.
Dolby has announced that it is making sound quality a bit better on small netbook computers with the addition of Dolby Headphone technology into select netbook computers. Among the first netbooks to use the technology are the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 and the S10-2.
The Dolby Headphone technology creates a personal surround sound experience that allows listeners to feel immersed in the entertainment and creates up to five virtual speakers. I will say that I have not heard a virtual surround sound tech yet that actually sounds like real surround sound does.
