It's just been announced at the Sony GC 2009 conference that Digital Reader technology is en route for the Sony PSP and PSP-Go. This news comes from the IGN Liveblog just a few minutes ago. This Digital Reader tech is primarily meant to bring digital comics to direct download on Sony handhelds.

Ira Rubenstein from Marvel Entertainment helped to announce the new service. Users will be able to download Marvel comics directly onto their machines as they are released. The X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man series' were all mentioned. Users will be able to download straight to their PSPs or via the PlayStation network.

The interface is supposed to be very nice, and allows frame-by-frame browsing of the comic for easy reading. This is very exciting news for the PSP, and for comic fans the world over. Good going, Sony!
