The popular 140 character message service Twitter gets a cool new feature. A new API allows locating where a tweet comes from.
This will be especially useful if something happens in a neighborhood and you can read other tweets based on location.
The new Twitter API will allow developers to add latitude and longitude to any tweet. So we will soon see enhanced Twitter Apps for the iPhone that use the built-in GPS to send your location with the tweet.
You will need to activate this new feature by choice because it will be off by default and the exact location data won't be stored for an extended period of time. More details on the Twitter blog.
Facebook also made an announcement to integrate Twitter better on Facebook pages. You can soon publish your Facebook updates also on Twitter. More details on the Facebook blog.
