Ladies and gentlemen, I do believe we have gadget overload. The next two months will see the release of the Zune HD, a bevy of CULV notebooks, the Asus EEE Keyboard, a new line of iPods and, now, a new series of Asus nettop computers. According to Digitimes the Taiwan-based company plans to release a new Eee Box and a new Eee Top next month.
A nettop is an all-in-one portable computer. The hardware itself is concealed inside the screen, which has a fold out stand built into it. You set the monitor up, plug in a USB keyboard and mouse, and you have a workstation ready to go. In terms of power, most nettops are solidly in the 'netbook' category, but their larger size makes them as convenient as a desktop for browsing or word processing.
Asus's new devices could bring a new standard of power to the nettop range. The 20” (touchscreen) Eee Top packs a dual-core Atom 330 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 250 GB HD, and WiFi (via Gizmodo). It will cost roughly $668, while the Eee Box (based around the Ion processor) will cost roughly half that. Ion will also be hitting stores in September inside a new HP netbook, which only adds to the gadget overload. It's going to be a busy fall for reviewers.
